Two retailers in the Medford area who specialize in Hispanic products have been convicted of illegal tobacco sales.
The Oregon attorney general's office said Friday that 44-year-old Irene Castro-Fletes (FLEH-tess) and 49-year-old Marie Almaraz pleaded guilty to the charges.
Castro-Fletes owns and operates La Estrella (es-TRAY-yeh)Market in Phoenix and Almaraz owns and operates Casa Latina in White City.
Investigators said they purchased and sold cigarettes that were manufactured for sale outside the United States, and could not be legally sold in Oregon.
They were both ordered to pay fines to the Oregon Department of Revenue, perform community service and serve 18 months on probation.
