A man has pleaded innocent in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Puyallup.
Twenty-seven-year-old Michael David Vaudrin of Spanaway was charged Wednesday with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. He was ordered to submit to electronic home monitoring pending a hearing June 5 in Pierce County Superior Court.
Prosecutors wrote in court filings that Vaudrin was drunk and speeding when he ran a red light early Tuesday morning at an intersection on State Route 167, River Road East. His black 2002 Honda T-boned a silver 1999 Honda and the other driver, 51-year-old Robert A. Hawkins of Spanaway, died soon afterward.
Vaudrin was followed by a witness and was stopped and arrested by a Pierce County sheriff's deputy about five minutes after the crash.
