As many as 60 people are out of work after a fire destroyed a veneer mill near Creswell.
No one was injured as the Bald Knob Veneer Company mill went up in smoke Tuesday night.
The fire could be seen for miles in the Lane County area south of Eugene.
Workers say that sparks from welding may have ignited a pile of wood shavings, but company officials couldn't confirm that.
The mill employs about 60 people and supplies veneer to a plywood plant in Springfield.
A company official said the fire would stall production at Springfield and elsewhere.
