Man with pipe bombs in Lakewood, WA, surrenders to police

06/13/2007

Associated Press

A standoff at a Lakewood apartment ended this afternoon shortly after 5 after a 52-year-old man surrendered to police.

A SWAT team and a bomb squad were called to the apartment, where medics say they saw "several" pipe bombs with fuses.

The medics responded to the apartment after a call for medical aid.

Four nearby apartments were evacuated during the standoff.

Police say the man was involved in a standoff in Thurston County in 2003, when he barricaded himself from a SWAT team.
