One man was shot to death, a second man survived after being shot a number of times and a third man was arrested after a brief chase, police said.
Police in this suburb between Seattle and Tacoma said gunshots were reported at the Empire Gardens Apartments about 4:30 a.m. Monday, and a chase developed after officers arrived to find one man dead, another wounded and a third getting ready to leave in a car.
Police pursued the car for 10 blocks until it hit a utility pole, and the wounded man was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition. The driver of the car escaped injury and was arrested.
Joseph Nathan McClain was being held without bail at the King County Regional Justice Center in Kent for investigation of homicide, attempted homicide, a firearms violation and felony flight, according to the county jail's Web site.
The motive for the shooting was under investigation, police spokeswoman Stacy Flores said.
