Audubon's guide to urban wildlife
02:50 PM PDT on Friday, March 28, 2008
We are fortunate to have a variety of birds of prey nesting on our urban landscape. These beautiful birds help keep our environment healthy and add immeasurably to our quality of life.

Three hawk eggs in a nest in downtown Portand.
How cool is it that we can look up from our most urban streetscapes and watch a red-tailed hawk hunting and feeding young overhead! We all have an important role in helping ensure that these birds are able to nest successfully in our midst.
Here are a few suggestions for co-existing with urban wildlife:
1) It is fine to enjoy the hawks from the street below or watching from inside of nearby buildings.
2) People living and working in the buildings surrounding the nest site should avoid attempting to view nests from locations when humans do not typically go. Rooftops, fire escapes and leaning out of windows should be avoided.
3) If territorial incidents do occur, please report these to Bob Sallinger at 503 292-9501 ext. 122 or at bsallinger@audubonportland.org.
Thanks for helping to keep Portland wild!
