Erickson outspends Schrader in House race
05:11 PM PDT on Wednesday, October 15, 2008
WASHINGTON -- Republican Mike Erickson has spent more than $2 million -- most of it his own money -- as he seeks to replace retiring Rep. Darlene Hooley in Oregon's 5th Congressional District.
A report filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission shows the wealthy businessman from Lake Oswego has spent nearly $2.1 million, including $489,400 in the past three months.
Erickson has loaned his campaign more than $1.6 million -- far more than the $427,000 he has raised from other sources. He has about $42,000 cash on hand.
Erickson's Democratic opponent, state Sen. Kurt Schrader of Canby, reported spending nearly $800,000 so far, including $516,000 in the past three months.
Schrader has raised a total of $1 million, including a $130,000 loan to his campaign. He raised $518,000 this quarter and has $233,000 cash on hand.
