10:22 AM PDT on Thursday, September 4, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The biggest political campaign contributor in Oregon history has donated another $175,000 for two crime-related measures on the Nov. 4 ballot.
The latest donations makes it more than $1 million that Loren Parks has spent on issues in this year's election.
He put $870,000 toward collecting the signatures that qualified six initiatives for Oregon's statewide ballot this year.
The latest contributions support Measure 61, which calls for mandatory prison sentences for some drug and theft crimes, and Measure 62, which would amend the Oregon Constitution to dedicate 15 percent of lottery proceeds to public safety programs.
Parks is the owner of a medical equipment manufacturing company who moved from Portland to Nevada in 2002.
Over the years, he has spent more than $8 million on such campaigns.
