Oregon watchdog files initiative fraud complaint
01:23 PM PDT on Tuesday, July 15, 2008
SALEM, Ore. -- The watchdog group Our Oregon has filed a complaint with the state Elections Division asking for an investigation into alleged initiative fraud.
The group says four Oregon voters claim their names were forged on petitions they did not sign.
Our Oregon said it found the four alleged forgeries after a limited examination of the signatures on 2008 initiative petitions.
The complaint also includes written testimony from a Bend resident who claims a signature gatherer was impersonating a registered petition circulator.
Our Oregon is asking the Secretary of State to refer the case to the Oregon Department of Justice for possible prosecution.
