KGW, a Belo Corp. subsidiary, has an immediate opening for an individual to work as a Meteorologist. The top local news operation is looking for an outstanding and experienced Meteorologist to work in one of the country's best cities, at one of the country's finest local news operations and join one of the best media companies in the country.
The individual will be on the Monday - Friday morning and noon newscasts as well substantial fill-in exposure on KGW's early evening and late Monday-Friday newscasts. The skill to interact live comfortably with the public is a must. The successful candidate will get to work in a brand new HD studio in the heart of downtown Portland. This individual will go live every morning in Pioneer Courthouse Square as the city starts to buzz with activity and interact Today Show-style with viewers who come downtown to meet you and the other KGW on-air personalities. This position provides all the latest weather tools to help you tell the weather story - exclusive Live HD Doppler Radar, live sky cams dotting the region from Mount Hood to the Pacific Ocean, and the latest Weather Central technology. Responsibilities include gathering weather information and presenting it in a compelling way to our viewers. We are especially looking for a person who can produce a contemporary weathercast that focuses on now and future weather trends. The successful candidate will be someone who can tell a compelling weather story that draws viewers to the screen. Working in Portland is a meteorologist's dream because of all the area's micro-climates - the Pacific Ocean, snow-capped mountains, the deep and windy Columbia River Gorge, high plateau deserts and the verdant Willamette Valley.
Minimum 2-5 years experience required. A college degree and certified meteorologist is also preferred.
