Abbey Gibb

KGW Reporter

Abbey Gibb joined the KGW NewsChannel 8 team in January of 2011 as a general assignment reporter.

Originally from Southern California, she is thrilled to have her new home be in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Abbey came to Portland from Spokane at KGW's sister station, KREM. She spent the last three years as the weekend anchor and a weekday reporter. While there, she covered everything from devastating wildfires to the city's worst snow storm in history. She also won a Society of Professional Journalist's award for best spot news coverage on a story about an escaped mental patient.

Before Spokane, Abbey worked in Idaho Falls as a reporter, news anchor, and weather anchor. There she won the Idaho Press Club Award for Best Medical Feature on meth-addicted mothers.

Abbey attended San Diego State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Journalism and an emphasis in Broadcasting. She was named "Graduate of the Year" and was also chosen as "Best Journalism Scholar of the Year."

Abbey speaks Mandarin Chinese as well, thanks to living in Taiwan for three years during childhood. In her spare time, Abbey loves to get outdoors. Depending on the weather you can catch her snowboarding or soaking up the Northwest beaches.
