KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban is claiming responsibility for a suicide bombing near NATO headquarters in Kabul that killed 6 people and wounded five others.
The militant group says the target was a U.S. intelligence facility nearby.
The Afghan Interior Ministry says all of the dead were civilians.
A spokesman for the U.S.-led international military alliance says all coalition compounds in Kabul are currently secure. He says he's not aware of any casualties among members of the coalition.
A police official in Kabul says the U.S. Embassy, the Italian embassy and the presidential palace are also located near the site of Saturday's attack.
The attack came as Afghans celebrated the 11th anniversary of the death of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the charismatic Northern Alliance commander who was killed in an al-Qaida suicide bombing two days before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The alliance joined with the United States to help rout the Taliban after America invaded Afghanistan a month later in the wake of the attacks.
