KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A U.S. official says an American service member has been killed in Afghanistan by gunmen wearing Afghan National Army uniforms.
Another U.S. official says two other U.S. service members were wounded. The official says the two gunmen are in custody.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the information.
An announcement from NATO said only that a member of the U.S.-led coalition was killed in the attack in eastern Afghanistan, and that Afghan and coalition officials were investigating.
The Taliban claimed responsibility.
So far this year more than 25 coalition troops have been killed in attacks by Afghan soldiers or insurgents disguised in their uniforms.
That compares with 11 fatal attacks and 20 deaths the previous year. In 2007 and 2008 there were a combined total of four attacks and four deaths.
