Woman killed in Silverton, second homicide on road in past year

SILVERON, Ore. – A woman was found dead inside a Silverton home after a reported shooting Saturday. It is the second apparent homicide in less than a year in the rural neighborhood.

Silverton police went to a home in the 200 block of Olson Road on reports of a shooting just before 3:45 p.m., according to Jeff Fossholm, Chief of Police in Silverton.

When they arrived, officers found 50-year-old Cassandra K Wagner, dead. She "had been murdered by homicidal violence," Fossholm said.

The Marion County Homicide Assault Team and surrounding agencies joined in a search for the suspect overnight. He was identified as Jason Clifford Down, 43.

At 6:30 a.m. Sunday, police learned Down had arrived at Silverton Hospital by private vehicle. From there, he was taken by medical helicopter to a Portland hospital for treatment for injuries he received overnight.

Fossholm said police don't yet know how he received his injuries. He is not in custody yet but law enforcement officials are with him.

A homicide investigation is under way.

This was the second apparent murder in the past year on the same block of the rural road in Silverton, a street with just six houses on it.

In December, 30-year-old Jeffrey Lamoreaux was fatally shot at 218 Olson Road. Uriah Mckinley, 22, later pleaded guilty to murdering Lamoreaux and was sentenced to life in prison.

Mckinley's co-defendant, Andrew Solver, is scheduled to appear in court in September.
