Winterhawks win big in first game of seven

PORTLAND -- The Portland Winterhawks made it five straight wins to start the playoffs with an 8-2 victory over Victoria in game one of their best of seven playoff series.

The Hawks scored twice in the first period on goals by Chase De Leo and Brendan Leipsic. For Leipsic, it was goal number six of the playoffs.

Portland erupted for four more goals in the second period including two by Oliver Bjorkstrand. He also has six goals in the post season in just five games. Matt Dumba also scored two goals in the game for the Winterhawks.

They played the game at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 6,152 fans.

The Hawks have now won 12 straight, including the regular season and 33 of their last 34 games.

Game two of the best of seven series is Saturday at the Moda Center. Games three and four will be Monday and Tuesday at Victoria.
