PORTLAND, Ore. -- Because of continuing heavy rain, Portland Parks & Recreation announced their grass athletic and ball fields will be closed again, starting Wednesday until at least Friday.
The department's all-weather synthetic turf fields will remain open.
This is the second time this month the fields have been closed. The department had just reopened the fields on Oct. 22 after they were closed for more than a week during this month's large fall storm.
Mark Ross, a spokesman for Portland Parks & Recreation, said the fields have "standing water, mud, slippery turf and other poor conditions."
The steady rain, lack of sunshine and cooler temperatures have made it difficult for maintenance crews to maintain or make repairs to the fields.
The field conditions will be evaluated again on Friday, Ross said.
