PORTLAND – A known prostitute who routinely stole wallets and purses from elderly victims was sentenced to seven years in prison Monday.
Tiffany Denise Smith, 33, was arrested in January for mugging an 89-year-old woman and stealing her purse.
Smith has a record of drug use and prostitution and police said she repeatedly followed elderly victims home from grocery stores like Safeway and Fred Meyers, and then mugged them.
In one case, Smith also stole the purse of a 90-year-old woman after she knocked on the woman's door, pushed past her and stole her purse off of the dining room table, according to police.
Smith was convicted on four counts of burglary, two counts of robbery and six counts of identity theft, all carrying sentences ranging from 60 to 84 months in prison, served concurrently.
Smith's criminal past includes her arrest for prostitution after she allegedly had sex in a Southeast Portland field with an Oregon State Police detective last October.
The detective was on duty at the time, but was not in uniform. He resigned and was later sentenced to seven days in jail. Prostitution charges were not included in Smith’s Monday sentencing hearing.
