"It's not what it used to be it's not dank, dark, or dusty anymore," said Dale Emanuel with Goodwill Industries.
Five million shoppers hit the 37 Portland area Goodwill stores annually. That’s because these locations get the most donations in the world. You’ll find everything from winter jackets for kids to even real designer bags.
“For example. I think I paid $14 for this Prada bag and I have one that I bought in Italy and I probably paid $350, so there!,” said Toni Dailey who was looking for a bargain.
Stretching your dollar further, everyday Goodwill stores have sales on what’s already discounted. You can save an additional 50% on items that are already priced at six dollars.
The best time to shop is early in the week, after the weekend donations because there’s more to choice.
You can also find inexpensive clothes online, from kid clothes to couture for both men and women. EBay and Craig’s List are chock full of new and used clothing.
Your savings can soar at What’s Upstairs in Northwest Portland.
On average, you’ll save about 70-percent off retail.
The owners of the women’s consignment shop focus on quality. From suits to shoes to handbags to basics.
"This is a top from JCrew that would retail for about $88 and we've got it for 16-dollars," said Liz Mehl, a sales woman at the shop.
The clothes are considered lightly worn and most fairly new, none more than two years old.
They also have new items with the tags still attached. Designed jeans that would cost about two hundred dollars are offered at $70.
The store sells consignors clothes and splits the profit.
