FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Cassie Weil has been diving since she was 9 and her Olympic dreams got her to the U.S Olympic Diving trials in Federal Way, Washington.

Weil, 18, calls Hillsboro home and plans to attend college at LSU. She is the first woman in the history of Oregon to make the Olympic Trials in diving.

During Wednesday's stiff competition at the trials, she nearly won a spot in the semifinals. She was in 10th place after four of five rounds of diving in the preliminary, but a failed entry on her final dive saw her plummet down the leaderboard. She finished 24th.
