PORTLAND -- Frost and black ice coated roadways Thursday morning in the metro area as temperatures dipped below freezing overnight.
Overnight rains and high humidity left neighborhood streets slick, with many fender benders reported throughout the Portland area. Freeway traffic appeared to be largely accident-free.
Many school districts have late openings or buses on snow routes.
Temperatures will rise above freezing by 9 a.m. with a high today of 40, said KGW meteorologist Nick Allard.
The National Weather Service issued an alert Wednesday for icy roads effective through Thursday morning for many areas of southwest Washington and northwest Oregon.
