NEW YORK (AP) -- The Grammys are defending the attention it gave to Chris Brown, three years after he assaulted Rihanna at a pre-Grammy event. Recording Academy president Neil Portnow says the Grammys are about "music professionals listening to the music of other professionals." He says, "If we're going to get in trying to personally evaluate artists in terms of their personal lives, that's a slippery slope that we wouldn't want to get into." Brown got two performance slots in Sunday's show and won best R-and-B album for "F.A.M.E." Some media critics and women's groups questioned Brown getting such prominent spots at the Grammys.
