Ride Connection set to celebrate 30 years

PORTLAND, Ore. – A local organization dedicated to getting people where they need to go is set to celebrate a major milestone. Ride Connection will celebrate 30 years in 2018.

The non-profit provides transportation services in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties for those with limited options, such as seniors, those with disabilities and low-income individuals.

There are almost 470 drivers with Ride Connection, and most of them are volunteers. They say the biggest changes over the years is an increase in elderly riders, and an increase in traffic. Despite the traffic, they know its important to help people who can't drive. Transportation gives them their lives back.

Jan Grimes is a volunteer driver. Shes been doing this for about four months, and says she loves meeting people, and making connections. You get to meet a lot of interesting people, she said. People are having hardships but it reminds you that theres some good in the world.

Without transportation, people can't access grocery stores, medical facilities, visiting friends, said Ride Connection Exec. Director Elaine Wells. Which is crucial to folks. Daily living activities. People need transportation.

Last year, drivers gave 535,000 rides.
