RAINIER, Ore. -- A section of U.S. Highway 30 will be dedicated to Rainier Police Chief Ralph Painter, who was killed in the line of duty January 5.
The "Chief Ralph Painter Memorial Highway" will stretch from milepost 30, in St. Helens, to milepost 48, in Rainier, according to Kimberly Dinwiddie with the Oregon Dept. of Transportation.
ODOT and City of Rainier officials will hold a dedication ceremony Monday. Rainier Mayor Jerry Cole will preside over the event, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Rainier Riverfront Park.

"A new state law passed earlier this year allows memorials on state highways to fallen law enforcement officers," Dinwiddie said. "The event Monday will memorialize Chief Painter, a 25-year veteran of the Rainier Police Department."
