Police busy with Labor Day weekend violence

PORTLAND, Ore. -- It was a busy night for Portland police, who responded to five separate reports of gunfire during a three-hour stretch early Sunday morning.

The following is a list of the various reports, with information about the five separate reported shootings:

3:53 a.m. — Officers responded to a report of gunfire and a car on fire in the 15900 block of East Burnside Street. The car had numerous bullet holes visible. A citizen had used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire inside the car. Witnesses said they heard several gunshots and saw a dark-colored SUV leaving the area, which may have been related to the shooting.

About 4 a.m. — Reports of gunfire in the area of Southwest 154th Avenue and Alder Street. There was evidence of gunfire but no victims or property damage was found by officers.

About 4 a.m. — Reports of gunfire in the area of Southeast 148th Avenue and Clinton Street. Officers found evidence of gunfire but no victims or property damage.

About 6 a.m. — Reports of gunfire in the area of Southeast 141st Avenue and Division Street. A neighbor told police he heard gunfire at about 4 a.m. and awoke to find evidence of gunfire in the street. Police found no victims or property damage.

6:25 a.m. — Reports of a person shooting at a victim when he got out of his car in the area of 115th Avenue and Powell Court. Officers spoke with the victim, who said a suspect or suspects shot at him from a gold or silver car. The victim was not hit or harmed in the shooting.
