GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — Rep. Greg Walden, Oregon's only Republican in Congress, has gotten a primary challenge from the right.

Klamath County Commissioner Dennis Linthicum announced Wednesday he will seek the Republican nomination for the 2nd District, which covers Eastern Oregon and the Rogue Valley.

Linthicum told The Associated Press he thinks of Walden as an establishment Republican pretending to be a true conservative.

Walden replied with a statement saying he looks forward to earning the trust of Oregonians again next year, and that he continues to work to improve Oregon's economy while reducing the size and cost of government.

Linthicum was elected to the Klamath County commission in 2010. Before that he was a software consultant to wood products manufacturer Jeld-Wen.
