Plastic bag ban campaign stalls in Oregon

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Portland, Corvallis and Eugene have banned plastic shopping bags, and a ban in Ashland goes into effect in October.

But a proposal for a statewide bag ban failed in the Legislature last year and a campaign to extend the ban to Salem and other cities has stalled.

A conservation advocate for Environment Oregon, Rikki Seguin, told the Statesman Journal there's not enough support on the Salem council.

Council member Laura Tesler says the campaign fizzled out and there's not enough community support.
