Illini grad talks to students from space station

URBANA, Ill. (AP) — University of Illinois graduate Mike Hopkins has addressed an audience at his alma mater from the International Space Station.

Hopkins is a 1991 engineering graduate and former co-captain of the Illini football team. The News-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/17wF8oW ) he has spent six months aboard the space station. On Tuesday he spoke for 10 minutes with aerospace engineering students from the space station. Hopkins answered their questions while standing in front of an Illini flag inside the space station.

Hopkins' quote that got cheers: "University of Illinois, Fighting Illini, I hear you loud and clear." The chat was possible via a NASA hookup.

Hopkins told students his favorite thing to do in the space station is float. He says "it doesn't get old" and did a flip.
