MADRAS, Ore. -- A New Mexico man died Sunday morning in a single-car crash on Highway 26 south of Madras.
Oregon State Police troopers were called out to the crash on Highway 26 near milepost 12 at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police say a 2005 Jeep Liberty was driving east on Highway 26 when it left the highway, hit the shoulder near Laurel Lane, then crossed back across both lanes and left the road on the other side of the way where it rolled multiple times.
The passenger in the front seat, 28-year-old Klayton W. Gibson, of Moriarty, New Mexico, was ejected from the car and died from his injuries at the scene. Police say Gibson wasn't wearing a seat belt.
The driver, 27-year-old Breanna D. Conaway, of Vancouver, Washington, was treated at Saint Charles Madras for minor injuries. Conaway's 5-year-old daughter was also in the car and was treated for minor injuries.
Police say distracted driving may have been a factor in the crash.
