VANCOUVER – An 18-year-old Skyview High School student was arrested Wednesday by drug task force detectives for trafficking marijuana and ecstasy to local students.
A school official told the task force that Trevor Thomas, a senior at Skyview, was trafficking drugs to other students from his home, said Commander Mike Cooke with the Clark-Vancouver Regional Drug Task Force.
The arrest of the student comes less than a week after charges were filed against a Grant High School student in Portland. Officers say that 18-year old was dealing cocaine, heroin and marijuana to classmates.
A recent study indicates 44-percent of high schoolers know a student who sells drugs. Marijuana is the most common drug sold at school. Followed by prescription pills, cocaine and ecstasy.
Detectives in Vancouver arranged to buy marijuana and ecstasy from Thomas. While under police surveillance, Thomas drove from his home to the Fred Meyer at 800 NE Tenny Road to drop off the drugs, Cooke said.
According to court documents, detectives made arrangements to buy 4 grams of "Molly," a street name for ecstasy, and 3 ounces of marijuana by texting Thomas' cell phone.
Thomas showed up at the Fred Meyer just before 6:30 p.m., and according to documents, he was handcuffed and read his rights. Detectives then found the drugs in Thomas' Mercedes.
After he was arrested, Thomas’ home was searched and among the marijuana, ecstasy, and packaging materials, detectives found $12,000 in cash that is believed to be from selling drugs.
"In addition to the drug evidence, we also recovered records detailing prior drug transactions with a variety of individuals," said Cooke in a press release to KGW. "We will provide those records to the school resource officer assigned to Skyview High School so that any ongoing issues with specific students can be addressed."
Thomas was booked at the Clark County Jail on delivery of a controlled substance charges. More charges may be filed based on evidence found at the home.
Court records suggest Thomas has a history of drug-related charges.
His arrest comes less than a week after charges were filed against a Grant High School student in Portland. Officers said that 18-year old Jacob Sause was dealing cocaine, heroin and marijuana to classmates.
