VANCOUVER -- A man whose backpack was allegedly stolen at a Vancouver park Thursday told police he shot one of the men responsible.
A deputy investigating a call near 102nd Avenue and Fourth Plain Boulevard heard a single gunshot at nearby Orchards Park and then saw a man leaving the park, said Sgt. Phil Sample of the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
The deputy questioned the man, who told him someone had stolen his backpack and gotten into a car with several friends. The man said his attempt to recover the backpack had been unsuccessful, so he used his gun to break out a window of the car and then fired one shot.
"A short time later, the occupants of the vehicle showed up at Southwest Peace Health Hospital for medical evaluation," Sample said. "One of the occupants had a through-and-through wound to the arm."
The injury was not life-threatening. The 39-year-old shooter was held for questioning and a major crimes team was investigating.
