VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A man died Friday after he jumped from the bed of a pickup truck and into the path of an oncoming car on SR-14 just east of downtown Vancouver.
Crews were called to SR 14, west of Columbia House Boulevard, about 9 p.m. Friday, where they found Bradley E. Bouton, 52, of Vancouver, deceased, according to the Washington State Patrol.
He was struck by a 2001 Honda Accord driven by Christopher M. Palaia, 42, of Vancouver. Police said he was cooperating with investigators.
Friends and investigators told KGW that Bouton had been driving a "recovery vehicle" pickup towing another pickup that became disabled. Both vehicles were stopped on the shoulder.
Police said Bouton was in the bed of the pickup being towed when he jumped towards the travel lane. The Accord struck him, and Bouton was thrown onto the driver side of the recovery truck.
