LONGVIEW, Wash. – A landslide Wednesday night forced crews to shut down a major road in Longview, Wash.

Columbia Heights Road will remain closed to all but local traffic, between Fishers Lane and Laurel Road, at least through Thursday.

Authorities said the landslide has been creeping into the backyard of a home located just above Columbia Heights Road.

The homeowner, Jeff Walters, said his family has been dealing with the moving land for more than a year, but they’ve noticed that it seems to be speeding up now.

“For the first year, it moved a foot,” he said. “But in the last two months, it's dropped probably 3/12 feet back here.”

Walters’ family has lived in the home for 25 years and he feels confident that the slide will stop. He believes the home is safe.
