PORTLAND -- Several people believed to be responsible for 15 cases of baggage theft at Portland International Airport were arrested Tuesday in Vancouver, police said.

Vancouver and Port of Portland police recovered six suitcases and several other stolen items while serving a search warrant Tuesday morning in the 9600 block of Southeast 7th Street, said Port of Portland spokesman Steve Johnson.

"Four suspects were detained at the residence," Johnson said. "Two were arrested on unrelated warrants by Vancouver police, and two were released."

The case is not believed to be related to an incident at PDX on January 5, in which six people were detained on suspicion of baggage theft. All charges in the case have since been dropped.

The theft victims have been identified and the police were working to notify them, Johnson said. The thefts have occurred over an 8-month period. The investigation was ongoing.

He said 101 bags have been reported stolen from last September through Jan. 1.
