VANCOUVER -- A bicyclist was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a minivan in Hazel Dell Friday night.

Police said 47-year-old Kurt Ludman, of Vancouver, was riding his bicycle westbound across Highway 99 just after 8:30 p.m. when he was hit by the southbound minivan at NE 102nd Street.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to Sergeant Fred Neiman of the Clark County Sheriff's Office. She was not injured.

Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, he said.

Paramedics said the victim was not wearing a helmet when they found him.

"They were not sure if bystanders that came to the victim's aid removed a helmet prior to the paramedics arrival, but one was not located on or near the victim," said Dawn Johnson of Clark County Fire District 6.

The CCSO Traffic Homicide Unit continued to investigate.
