VANCOUVER -- A Vancouver-area woman pleaded guilty to killing her husband with a hammer and waiting more than two weeks to report his death.

Donna Rae Williams pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of first-degree murder in connection with the death of 55-year-old Mark Williams last May.  She was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The 51-year-old woman bludgeoned her husband with a hammer as he slept in the couple's bed on May 14, 2012. She called 911 to report his death 16 days later.

Officers arrived to find the body of Mark Williams in a back bedroom, covered with bloody sheets, according to court documents. Police said blood was also spattered on the walls. Donna Williams told the responding officers that she had been abused for years and decided to kill her husband after he punched her in the face on Mother’s Day.

Williams was jailed on $750,000 bail and was deemed competent to stand trial last July.  She was sentenced as part of a plea deal Thursday.
