VANCOUVER -- A Vancouver family is making an emotional plea after a cherished memento vanished from right in front of their home.
The angel statue was a daily reminder of a mother and wife who passed away years ago. It was stolen from the Ernesti family's lawn last month.
On the front lawn is a sign, a public plea for the return of an angel. Just steps away, an empty space where that angel statue vanished without a trace.
“It’s kind of a sacred spot for me you know,” Theo Ernesti said.
She gave that angel to her mother just before she passed away.
“For me, her last few years she almost looked like an angel to me. There’s always this softness and glow to her,” Ernesti said.
Ernesti said her mother loved gardening and all things angels. She collected nearly 400 of them and many still sit in the family's Vancouver home. Theo's father Dewayne says the symbols remind him of his high school sweet heart, his bride of 58 years.
“When I sit here and look at the angel, and I see where they’re from, it brings back memories,” Theo Ernesti said.
Memories of a wife and a mother who lived a life full of love.
“I always feel like she’s here. It is part of our family and it’s still here and that’s why we’d really like to have it back, it is really dear to our hearts it’s not just a yard ornament,” Ernesti said.
Ernesti said her mother's birthday is December 23rd and they would like nothing more than to get it back in time for Christmas.
