MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon man has been charged with felony animal abuse after police say he shot a dog that may have defecated on his property.
Jackson County sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson says 56-year-old Danny Lee Tryon of Trail told deputies that several dogs were using his yard as a bathroom and he was tired of it.
The shepherd-mix named Sasha was shot with a .22-caliber gun on Nov. 10. The dog was found sitting near its owner's front gate, covered in blood.
Children who live near Sasha's home told deputies that a neighbor had fired the shot from about 40 to 50 yards away.
The Mail Tribune newspaper reports that Sasha underwent a procedure to save its life and might recover.
