LEBANON, Ore. -- After nearly 50 years, the body of a Vietnam veteran has returned home to Lebanon.

Family and friends bid a final farewell to Chief Master Sergeant Arden Hassenger Friday afternoon.

Hassenger joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a gunner on several missions during the Vietnam War. He was killed in action in Laos on Christmas Eve, 1965.

The plane he was on never returned from the mission.

Last year, the crash site was discovered and Hassenger’s death was confirmed.

He was laid to rest with full military honors at Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lebanon.
