SALEM – A man was injured when his van crashed into a large tree that had fallen onto the highway Monday morning along Highway 22E just east of Salem.
Jorge Navarro-Valadez, 56, of Salem, was driving his Dodge Caravan eastbound on Highway 22E when he crashed into the tree, according to Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police. The tree had fallen across the highway in the storm and was blocking both lanes.
Valadez was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Hastings said.
Several other trees fell nearby, causing numerous crashes.
Highway 22 was blocked for over an hour while workers removed the trees, cleared the debris, and had the vehicles towed from the scene.
Oregon State Police were urging drivers to watch for roadway debris, rocks, limbs and trees leaning toward or having fallen near roads.
“High winds and rain are impacting some roads. Travelers using mountain passes should also check for possible chain and traction tire restrictions,” Hastings added.
