STAYTON, Ore. -- A 34-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by an SUV near Dayton Wednesday night, police said.

Teresa Marie Toepfer, of Scio, was hit while she was walking with her mother on Kingston-Jordan Drive near Sandner Drive just before 9 p.m., according to Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller.

The driver called 911 immediately to say he struck her with his vehicle. He also attempted first aid, but Toepfer was pronounced dead at the scene when crews arrived, Mueller said.

Toepfer's mother was not injured.

The driver cooperated with investigators and no citations were issued.
