SALEM -- The Salem City Council could vote Monday night to approve or reject an initiative that would ban parking meters and parking time limits in the downtown area.
Supporters say it would add to downtown vitality. The Statesman Journal reports the initiative was brought by a citizens group, Stop Parking Meters in Downtown Salem, which gathered 6,000 signatures.
If the initiative is approved, it would go into effect immediately. If rejected, the initiative would go to voters in May.
