SALEM -- An anti-war and environmental group with headquarters in Salem, Oregon PeaceWorks, is disbanding after a quarter of a century.
The leaders say donations are down, and its debt has been on the rise since the advent of the Great Recession.
Its annual fundraising event, Give Peace a Dance, didn't bring in enough money last month to keep the group's hopes alive.
Program Director Peter Bergel told the Salem Statesman Journal he's proud of the group's accomplishments since 1987, especially its work to stop the testing of nuclear weapons on American soil.
He says the fate of the group's PeaceWorker publication remains in doubt. It went digital in 2010. The group will sell its office furnishings next month.
