SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A 30-year-old robber who was wounded in a shootout with a Salem police officer was sentenced Wednesday at the Marion County Courthouse to 25 years in prison.
The Statesman Journal reports (http://is.gd/SxWxB2 ) Matthew Sean Saner was high on heroin in February and armed with a rifle when he hit a convenience store and FedEx office. He fired at a responding officer who wounded Saner before taking him into custody.
Saner pleaded guilty in September to gun and robbery charges and no contest to an attempted murder charge.
The officer was not wounded, and a grand jury said the shooting was justified.
