BROOKS, Ore. – A driver fled the scene after crashing into a power pole on Highway 99E north of Salem early Saturday morning, police said.
Around 2:20 a.m., the driver, later identified as 31-year-old Benjamin Burns of Keizer, crashed into a ditch then hit the pole, causing downed power lines just south of Brooklake Drive Northeast, a spokesperson with the Keizer Police Department said.
Burns drove off, and after a brief chase with police, he was taken into custody near his home and booked in the Marion County Jail, police said.
Burns was charged with attempt to elude, DUII, criminal mischief and hit and run.
Highway 99E was reopened just before 8 a.m.
Burns will make his firs appearance in court Monday.
