SALEM -- Investigators were looking into bomb threats called in to three Oregon prisons Wednesday, police said.
The first threat was called in just before 1 p.m. at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, said Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings.
Five minutes later another threat was called in to Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution, in Pendleton. About 45 minutes after that a threat was called in to Snake River Correctional Institution, in Ontario.
Non-essential staff members were sent home for the rest of the day, according to the Oregon Department of Corrections. Inmate visits were also canceled for the day.
Essential staff members remained at the prisons and Oregon State Police were searching the property. No evacuations were ordered.
