ALBANY, Ore. (AP) -- A two-alarm fire early Monday damaged the century-old Willamette Community Church in Albany.
The fire was reported after 2 a.m. by the assistant pastor who responded to a security alarm and smelled smoke.
The Albany Fire Department says the fire started in the basement and went to two alarms because it spread into the walls, floors and ceilings.
A sprinkler system in the basement limited the damage. Firefighters had to tear open floors and ceilings to extinguish hidden flames.
