SEASIDE – Police arrested 20 people in drug raids at three locations in the Oregon Coastal city of Seaside after a six-month investigation.
"Operation Pandora's Box" resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, heroin and over $2,500 in cash, culminating in the arrests Sunday.
Police and deputies from several agencies searched the house at 920 6th Avenue in Seaside, an apartment at 2149 South Franklin and a cluster of homes and trailers on Highway 26. Police said the homes had been the targets of several complaints for months.
None of the structures at the compound on Hwy 26 had electrical or water service and sewage from the compound was directed through pipes into the Necanicum River, which flows alongside the property, police said. Electrical cords ran from a generator to other structures on the compound. Investigators also said they found hundreds of uncapped hypodermic needles, trace amounts of blood and buckets of human waste.
While searching the property, police said two people showed up to buy drugs.
Eighteen of the suspects were taken to the Clatsop County Jail and some were set for early release due to lack of jail space and overcrowding.
