NEWPORT - A fast-moving fire fanned by high winds destroyed a bank in Newport Monday morning.
Smoke was first spotted coming from the ATM room of the Umpqua Bank just after 9 a.m. Employees were all able to safely evacuate.
Nearly an hour later, fire command called for crews to abandon the building.
The fire was blown by 35-45 mile an hour winds, firefighters said.
The State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate the cause.
The bank manager said the safety deposit boxes were all in the main vault, which should have survived the fire.
