WARRENTON, Ore. -- Police are investigating a shooting death in the Oregon coastal city of Warrenton.

Police Chief Mathew Workman says a 39-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday after breaking into an apartment inhabited by a woman and three teenagers.

The dead man was identified Wednesday as Bruce Ross Rogers, the estranged husband of the woman resident. Police say he illegally entered the home.

"There were police officers with guns and they yelled at me to go behind the house and hide," said neighbor Leah Dalton.

He says one of the four called 9-1-1 to report they had locked themselves in the bedroom to protect themselves. As officers arrived, the man entered the bedroom and was shot.

Warrenton Police Chief Mathew Workman says all involved are co-operating with police. No one has been arrested or taken into custody.

"It's very sad," said neighbor Kindra Goodwin.  "Too bad."

Workman declined to release the names of those involved until relatives are notified. He says the man was an "ex of some sort," but wasn't sure if it was a husband or boyfriend.

He says no arrests have been made.
