ASTORIA, Ore. – The Grays Harbor, Depoe Bay, Tillamook Bay, Quillayute River and Coos Bay bar entrances were closed Saturday due to hazardous conditions.

The closures applied to all vessels, according to the Captain of the Port, Sector Columbia River in Astoria. All requests to enter during the closure must be approved, the captain said.

Any questions or concerns were referred to the Coast Guard on VHF-FM Channel 16 or Sector Columbia River at (503) 861-6211.

The Coast Guard expected to reevaluate the closures constantly and reopen the waterways when weather permitted.

A statement issued by the Coast Guard explained it “understands the effects these closures have on commerce and will make every effort to reopen these waterways as soon as they are considered safe for navigation.”
